Sakima McClinton has fought for our country. She has worked for her Community. Now she wants to serve the county as 8th Ward City of Poughkeepsie Common Council.
I have trained all my life for this moment. I hope you'll learn more about the path I've taken to come to this spot. I am prepared, motivated, and ready to serve our community again.
After serving our country proudly as a captain in the US Army, including a combat tour during the Iraqi War, she returned home to serve her fellow veterans as District commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Sakima McClinton is one of the most respected member of her community, having chosen to give her time and leadership talents to several organizations including Board of Education of the Poughkeepsie School District, American Legion and more.
Sakima McClinton was born and raised right here in the beautiful city of Poughkeepsie, New York, and chose to raise her own lovely family here as well.

"I will provide a strong voice for fiscal responsibility and integrity."
"As a West Point graduate and Iraq War veteran, we must continue to work to ensure these men and women that were willing to give the ultimately sacrifice to our country are treated with the dignity and respect that so deserve. We should and must do more."
Immigration - I believe that we should create a process to assist those legally seeking safety within our borders without compromising the security of our fellow citizens. And those in need should not be used as political fodder and irresponsibly dropped off in cities without a plan for success. This sets them up for failure and destabilizes local communities who are unprepared.
Education - We must reduce the role of the federal government in our education system so that state and local governments can more efficiently and directly work with students, teachers, and school administrators. Parents, teachers, administrators know what is best for their students and when given the opportunity. We need to look to best practices and research to help to eliminate the achievement gap and better allocate funds and resources.
